Davy proposed on our 9 year anniversary. He just couldn't wait another day! We didn't have any big plans for the anniversary which is pretty normal, so when he asked me if I wanted to ride around for a little while that evening I was happy to relive our early adventures. We went for ice cream and then he asked me if I wanted to go anywhere else, knowing that I am indecisive and can't handle the pressure of choosing where to go. Such options! Much struggle! He told me he'd made me a card but I wasn't allowed to read it yet. What a tease. He suggested that we take a three minute car-ride to the iconic Roanoke Star. The 88 foot neon man-made star with a scenic view of the entire Roanoke Valley is a popular destination for both tourists and locals alike, especially on an unseasonably warm night in February.
The view was beautiful that night. The city was lit up and the sky was clear. We hung out for a while, taking in the view and joking around. I asked if I could have this card he made me. He finally gave it to me, a hand-made card with a Davy Spangler original poem that chronicled our journey together so far complete with pictures that started from the night we met.
When I read the last line on the back of the card, he pulled out a ring box. I was completely blown away and speechless except for the unintelliglbe screaming that probably scared the other star-goers. It was a complete surprise, and he told nobody of his plans except for Kadin who helped plan and keep the secret.
