While visiting family and friends and taking a break from the stresses of school, Katie came home to Orange County for a weekend. It was a long traffic filled drive down from Fresno with three dogs in the car, so after arriving back in Orange County, Katie headed out to a local bar in Downtown Orange for a drink with an old friend. Brad, at the same time, was dragged out to that same bar with his friend and roommate. The two met after realizing that Katie and Brad's roommate, Bryan, had not only gone to high school together, but had grown up together in religious school. The four sat down to talk, and after a few drinks and good conversation, Brad thought he and Katie were hitting it off. When he asked for her number, he was shocked to hear "no" as her response. Katie explained that with being away at school, she wasn't interested in getting involved with someone back in Orange County. Thankfully her friend stepped in and gave Brad Katie's phone number and Brad gave Katie his number. A little while later, and a little bit of whiskey, Katie gave in and text Brad after getting home that night. The two never stopped talking after that, the miles between them didn't matter, and the rest is history
