Create Your Own Excursion Registry Item

Explore underground caverns and learn about the ancient Mayan culture. You'll also enjoy a traditional Mayan lunch, and enjoy free time for shopping or the beach. After a short bus ride, arrive at the historic "Chaac Tun" cenote, a sacred site to the ancient Mayans. These natural wonders were created by the filtration of water through the limestone terrain, and over the course of thousands of years created stunning stalactites, columns and formations. Follow the guides toward a fresh water underground river, where you’ll have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit the underground caverns and take a refreshing swim. Everything you need to safely enjoy this unusual ecosystem is provided, including a helmet, life vest. In order to preserve the ecological integrity of the area, sunscreen is not permitted until after the swimming portion of the tour. You'll have the opportunity to play the ancient Mayan handball game of tiachtili and have a traditional Mayan lunch. Try Pollo Pibil, a traditional Yucatan chicken dish, as well as fresh seasonal fruit.
