We’ll discover the hidden beauty of the “Garden Island” of Kauai. We’ll encounter its unique ecosystem while winding our way through the back roads into the luxuriant forests rich with exotic foliage. We’ll learn about Hawaii’s culture, native birds and plants from our local guide. Next, we’ll go to the top of the lovely Kilohana Crater and then onward to witness the jagged cliffs of Mahaulepu. We have the chance to visit the old sugar mill and cane tunnel and the splendor of the Waimea Canyon known as the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific."

Discover Hilo, Waves & Waterfalls

We’ll be able to enjoy the picturesque drive along the “Old Road” where lush rainforests and waterfalls will greet our eyes. We’ll be able to see the extraordinary Akaka Falls, a 410 foot waterfall which propels over the jagged cliffs of the dormant Mauna Kea Volcano. Next, we’ll go to the Tsunami Museum to learn about the power of the Tsunami, which includes footage of the Tsunami of 1946 that demolished a great deal of Hilo. Then we’ll travel to the awe-inspiring Shinmachi Memorial which was made in honor of the victims of the Tsunami. Afterwards, we’ll satisfy our sweet tooth with a short stop at Big Island Candies to purchase some treats that we can enjoy together.

Explore the Land of Frozen Fire

We have the chance to witness the results of the various volcanic eruptions in Hilo; including the repeated eruptions of Kilauea, Ahalanui warm springs which are volcanically heated to 90-degrees, and the spectacular scenery at MacKenzie State Park. We can’t wait to see the magnificent tree molds created by lava wrapping around the tree, cooling off, and then draining away leaving the mold located in Lava Tree State Park in Puna. Our love will be “frozen in time” as we walk across the “frozen earth” created by the lava flows while seeing an active volcano vent in the distance.

We’ll be able to tour the nostalgic town if Hilo. Afterwards, we’ll get to walk hand-in-hand in the Liliuokalani Park and enjoy the formal Japanese style gardens. Next, we can continue to leisurely walk together through the Nani Mau Gardens and enjoy the fragrance and sights of the 20-acres of fruit gardens, papaya orchards and flowers. Our time together does not end there, we’ll be able to enjoy each other’s company some more while promenade through the lush tropical forest and breathe in the stimulating aromas of heliconia, gingers, orchids, ferns and bamboo groves. Afterwards, we can cross over the bubbling streams on the wooded footbridges to the enchanting Akaka Falls.

We’ll be “nuts” over each other when we stop by to visit a macadamia nut factory and witness the processing of one of Hawaii's best known exports. Also we have the chance to take a drive through Hilo Town’s Banyan Drive which is accent by the formal Japanese style gardens of Liliuokalani Park. Then we get to discover a magical moment with the leaping rainbows cascading into a circular pool at Rainbow Falls. We’ll be captivated by the early history of Hilo while visiting the Lyman Museum and Mission House. We also will be able to enjoy some soft and gentle moments in the Nani Mau Gardens.

As we navigate through the quaint bay front town of Kailua-Kona along Ali’i Drive, we’ll learn about Hawaii’s legends and folklore. Then it’s off to the birthplace of Kamehameha III, the resort town of Keauhou. On the way we’ll have a chance to catch a glimpse of the fascinating Kealakekua Bay and the monument for Captain James Cook, who is credited for discovering the Hawaiian Islands in 1778. At the “City of Refuge,” Pu’uhonua O Honaunau, we’ll be able to witness a 20-acre finger of lava that is bordered by the sea in each side, which the city’s temple rests upon. We’ll also stop at the St. Benedict’s “painted” Church, which possesses vibrant and colorful and religious murals.

Secrets of Puna

Our love will “erupt” in Hilo when we experience the extravagant natural sights of Puna. We’ll be able to hear stories of life in Kalapana from former residents whos homes were destroyed as little as 15 years ago. We’ll get the chance to visit Kaimu, which used to have the finest black sand beach in the world, until it was covered by 75 feet of lava. Things will be sure to heat up when we stop at the 75 feet high lava cliffs which overlook the sparkling blue waters of the Pacific. Here we’ll be able to enjoy an elaborate lunch and some locally brewed Mehana beer. After lunch our journey continues on to the village of Kapoho, before making a stop at the volcanically-heated saltwater pool where we can take a romantic dip together.

Tubing the Ditch

What a splendid way to unwind and view the untouched interior of Kauai. We’ll take a brief ride to the Hanamaulu Ditch system, a part of the old Lihue Plantation, to start our tubing escapade. Once in the water, we’ll float down the tropical waterway consisting of open ditches, tunnels and flumes which were hand dug in 1912. After we are finished tubing, we’ll be able to enjoy a snack at a charming picnic area complete with a swimming hole.

We’ll pass by many of the well-known orchid and anthodium farms from Hilo on our way to Crater Rim Drive as our guide explains the mysteries of the famed Madame Pele, the Hawaiian Goddess of Fire. Next, we’ll travel to the Thurston Lava Tube and then head out to the Hawaii Volcano Observatory and the Jagger Museum. We can’t wait to meander through the remarkable exhibits of the destruction caused over the years by volcanoes. We’ll have time to browse through the many remnants that erupting volcanoes have left in their path. After our stroll through the museum, we’ll sure work up an appetite and have a chance to nibble on free samples at the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Factory Store while we observe how the nuts are processed.

We can’t pass up the opportunity to board a Hawaiian riverboat and float down the Wailua River to the Fern Grotto, a natural rock amphitheater filled with lush island ferns. But first we’ll begin our day with a narrated tram ride through the 30-acres at Smith’s Tropical Paradise Botanical & Cultural Gardens. When we board the riverboat, we’ll have the chance to listen to the enchanting island legends and lore. When it’s time to turn around, we’ll be serenaded by local musicians and dancers, ending with the Hawaiian Wedding Song which will be dedicated to anyone celebrating a honeymoon or anniversary in Kauai!

We’ll be able to witness the serenity and majesty of the astonishing 2,857-foot deep Waimea Canyon. We’ll drive by the Russian Fort, known as Fort Elizabeth which was built in 1817. Afterwards, we’ll have the chance to catch a glimpse of the Hanapepe Valley and travel through the native island roads of Koloa, where the first sugar cane plantation existed. Also we’ll visit the Waimea Town, the landing of Captain James Cook on our Kauai honeymoon!
